It's August already
Posted by: admin on Monday, August 07, 2006 - 01:58 PM
Information I woke up at 5:00AM this morning to lots of rain, thunder and lightning. Eff. My first thought was Kewaunee. I didn't care, though. I was going to do it regardless. I packed up and started putting my bike on the rack in the pouring rain. Getting soaked, I just stopped, looked up at the sky and said "God, you really want to laugh at me today, don't you?" I know God has a sense of humor, and I have no problem with him (or anyone else) laughing at me.

The whole way there it was raining hard and sent a text to Jesse to confirm how bad today was going to suck. I got there early enough to warm up for a while, but the rain was coming down so hard that I just took a nap in my car. Luckily the rain subsided 40 minutes before the race and cleared up pretty good. We warmed up and headed for the start chute. I had a good lead out in 2nd or 3rd, then Jesse passed me and told me to follow him. Ooooookay. It was an uphill road for a while before dirt, and I kept up as best as I could. But he was gone. The race itself was super fun... my chain fell off twice which cost me about 6 spots. I finished just behind Jesse in our age category and got a shiny silver medal. Then some guys from ZZ Top gave me and Jesse some Blimpie subs.

Conversation of the day:

Steve: And I didn't even puke at the end!
Jesse: Hey good job.

I was super tired when I got home... so what does someone do when they're that tired? Go see a matinee of Talledega Nights. It was pretty funny. What made it even BETTER was when a northwoods redneck couple sat right next to me, who obviously loved Nascar. The dude smelled like he hadn't showered in days... and wore a confederate flag bandana. Yeah, I'm a loser because I went alone, but why did they have to sit right next to me. The dude laughed at things that weren't funny (maybe I have to like Nascar to understand) and his wife/girlfriend/cousin had to ask, after every funny moment "what did they say?" Umm... did you come to the movie to NOT hear the dialogue? I couldn't get mad. I mean, I felt like I was at a Nascar race. That's hot.

Memorial Day weekend
Posted by: admin on Monday, May 29, 2006 - 11:02 PM
Friends This weekend I was in Minneapolis helping Timer move to his new place. Timer is a childhood friend of mine, we went to college together, and still talk to each other all the time. He helped me move back from Colorado, so I had to repay the favor. Funny... it was freezing outside when he helped me move, and it was flippin' hot helping him move. Great. There's nothing like moving an entire 2nd floor apartment three blocks away and putting everything on another 2nd floor. Moving never goes smoothly. Never. The apartment he and his wife moved into was bigger, but had been closed up for a month. The carpet wasn't shampooed. There were ants all over. Every time you turned on more than one light the circuit breaker went off. And the entire upstairs smelled of stale cat urine. Yeah. That's hot. There were 3 spots that Pookie liked to piss on frequently.

After that whole fiasco and seeing the blood vessels in Kirsten's neck pulsate, I came to a quick and final decision. I'm never having cats. I know, I know... not every cat does that. But more times than not, if the cat does do that, you have to rip the carpet and pad out... sometimes the subfloor. And then what? You're emotionally attached to the thing and won't get rid of it, so do you wait for it to happen again? I don't want any replies to this because there's no point in arguing about it. No cats. Amen.

Aside from that, I saw my little brother whom I haven't seen in 2 years. It was good seeing him again. We went out for beer and wings after talking about it for over a year. I think it was motivation that kept him alive while in Iraq. :) He'll be back around the 4th of July. Yaaaay.

I am still excited about moving. I know my new address now, so if you want it let me know... only if you promise to not stalk me. Okay, you can stalk me. But only if you make me mashed potatoes. Or if you want to lay on top of me and feed me popcorn that would be sweet too. I went to Ikea with Kirsten to get an idea of what I'll need to buy. That didn't go over so well. I just got lost in the possibilities and gave up. Honestly, I have no sense about home fashion or decorating, nor do I care. When I get married my wife can pick all of that stuff out. Women like comfortable surroundings. She can expect zero input from me about what color so-and-so to buy. I'll be like "Here's the credit card, honey. Have fun. Oh! Get some chili cheese Fritos on the way home, too." I'm simple like that, and easily pleased.

I hope you all had a fun weekend. Let me know if any of you went waterskiing. I hope to be on the lake in a few weeks! Gallistel or Reece... if you're reading this... I hope you guys had a good weekend in Iowa. I'll call you later to see how it went.
